Headaches and Chiropractic Care

Most of us experience the occasional headache. Whether it's throbbing, aching, pounding or stabbing, a headache can make our lives miserable. It also affects our ability to focus and may increase our sensitivity to external stimuli.

There are several types of headaches and a multitude of causes.

If your headache has been diagnosed and the recommended treatment is an over-the-counter or prescribed pain medicine, the true causes have not been addressed. Although the pain may quickly leave only to return shortly thereafter, the true originating problem remains, and can progress---requiring more, stronger, debilitating drugs in order to maintain some sort of existence.

Headache Pain is a Warning

There have been no known headaches that exist truly as a result of a deficiency of tylenol, advil , or any other pain medication. The pain that is experienced serves a warning that there is some combination of structural, emotional, and/or chemical imbalance within the body. The chemical imbalance is much more likely to be due to an excess of toxic chemicals in the body rather than a deficiency.

Chiropractic Care for Headaches

If you suffer from headaches, a thorough examination can be performed by Dr. Wolff to rule out most structural and/or chemical deficiency situations. Acupuncture, in addition to chiropractic care, can be used to evaluate and treat the headache patient from a different perspective. Massage and trigger point therapy applied to the muscles may also help reduce headache symptoms. If your headache cause does not fall within the scope of Dr. Wolff's practice, he will without delay, refer your case to the appropriate healchare provider.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT HEADACHES?

Follow these simple tips:

  • Manage your stress---try meditation, relaxation exercises and taking regular breaks from your schedule.
  • Exercise regularly---cardiovascular exercise helps your muscles, circulatory system and sense of well-being.
  • Watch your posture---the muscles that hold your head upright are the same as those that contribute to headaches. Practice good posture to reduce stress on these muscles.
  • Drink plenty of fresh water-dehydration is a common cause of headaches, muscle tightness and fatigue. Drink a minium of eight cups per day.

Have your spine checked regularly for misalignments/subluxations by Dr. Wolff--correcting misalignment before symptoms appear can save you alot of grief.
